Multisorb Technologies Introduces Desiccant Integration Approaches to Ensure Efficacy of In-Vitro Diagnostic Devices
Buffalo, NY - July 16, 2007
Multisorb Technologies, a global leader in cutting-edge active packaging technologies, introduces its innovative drop-in, fit-in, and build-in desiccant integration approaches for effective moisture protection of in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) devices. The company offers customized desiccants that are integrated into the device kit in three unique ways to protect against moisture, which can damage sensitive device components and interfere with test results.
Certain types of IVD devices, particularly home test kits for pregnancy, blood glucose concentrations and drug content, are single-use devices that are discarded after one test. Multisorb’s drop-in desiccant integration approach offers moisture protection in secondary packaging for these single-use devices to maintain product efficacy.
By contrast, other IVD devices contain reagents in a reservoir, enabling continued testing until contents are depleted. In this format, the desiccant must be included inside the device, providing longer term moisture management to ensure reagent stability throughout repeat testing. Multisorb’s fit-in solution involves the integration of new-generation Multiform Coated Solid Form (CSF) sorbents, which are custom manufactured to a particular shape and size to fit into the diagnostic device, creating an “onboard” solution while eliminating the threat of contamination.
Utilizing condensed density technology, the Multiform CSF sorbent delivers twice the moisture protection in the same dimensional space. This significantly increases the level of functional moisture management per unit volume, enhancing the efficacy of the formulations inside the device system.
Multisorb’s build-in integration approach incorporates adsorption properties into the structural components of the device, adding multifunctional capabilities to an existing device part. This approach provides moisture protection to devices specifically engineered for repeat use.
“Desiccants are an important part of any IVD device and choosing the right form and integration approach is crucial,” says Robert Sabdo, business development leader at Multisorb Technologies. “The flexibility offered by Multisorb’s new drop-in, fit-in, and build-in integration approaches enables customized moisture management to preserve reagent efficacy and, in turn, brand integrity.”
Editor’s Note: Multisorb Technologies will showcase CSF sorbents at AACC Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo 2007, July 15 - 19 in San Diego, CA Booth # 5001.
