Multisorb Highlights its System Solutions at PACK EXPO INTERNATIONAL 2008 - Introduces APA-4000 Sorbent Dispensing Equipment That Offers High Speed Packet Dispensing
Buffalo, NY - October 16, 2008

Multisorb Technologies, the global leader in active packaging technology, will highlight its high performance system solutions at PACK EXPO International 2008, November 9 -12, booth #S-219 at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL.

The company’s system solutions offer manufacturers an integrated active packaging option that incorporates Multisorb’s high speed and reliable dispensing equipment with its portfolio of effective sorbent packets. The system solution is designed to deliver efficiency to packaging operations, helping companies realize time and cost savings.

At PACK EXPO 2008, Multisorb will showcase several system solutions suited to meet the needs of varied healthcare, food and beverage, electronics, and general packaging applications. Additionally, the company will highlight its new APA-4000 sorbent dispenser, which was developed to work exclusively with Multisorb’s full range of sorbent packets. This new model dispenses sorbents at high speeds into a broad range of food and healthcare product packaging.

The APA-4000 dispenser features two servo-driven dispensing heads mounted on a single chassis and is capable of speeds up to 600 packets per minute. Left and right infeeds from two separate spool splicing station cabinets ensure constant product flow for continuous uninterrupted operation, enabling more efficient use of line time. The APA-4000 can be configured to meet the requirements of a variety of packaging applications and features a compact design to provide a small footprint for production layout flexibility.

In addition to the APA-4000 dispenser, Multisorb will highlight the following system solutions at the show:

The MAPLOXSM (Modified Atmosphere Packaging Low Oxygen) System is comprised of FreshPax® CR oxygen scavengers, which do not require activation, and the APA-500 dispenser. This system helps case-ready meat packers maintain the flavor and color of packaged meat during distribution. By absorbing the residual oxygen in the master bag in which individual cases are packed, FreshPax CR oxygen scavengers inhibit oxidative degradation and extend the shelf life of case-ready meats. The MAPLOXSM system is part of the company’s comprehensive MAPLOXSM program, which provides a roadmap for case-ready packers just starting with low oxygen packaging. The program considers several packaging parameters including: primary package materials and specifications, master bag specification, vacuum/gas flush composition and functional requirement, and FreshPax® CR sizing and handling methods.

The StripPax® System is a turn-key solution that incorporates Multisorb’s StripPax® sorbent packets and Multisorb’s dispensing equipment, combining machine speed and reliability with effective environmental management to ensure product stability for healthcare products. StripPax® sorbents come in compact, durable, non-dusting packets to minimize product contamination. The packets can incorporate a wide selection of sorbent formulations or customized blends.

Multisorb’s StabilOx® System incorporates Stabilox® packets that provide oxygen scavenging capabilities in low water activity environments enabling manufacturers to prevent the effects of oxidative degradation in drug formulations and diagnostic reagents and ensuring product stability and efficacy. The dispenser incorporates an automated nitrogen purge mechanism and associated monitoring mechanism to protect the scavengers from expending capacity before insertion.

The FreshPax® System couples FreshPax® oxygen scavenger packets with dispensing equipment to protect packaged foods against spoilage, rancidity, and mold growth while maintaining color, flavor, and texture. By removing oxygen from food packaging, FreshPax® packets inhibit the growth of aerobic pathogens and other spoilage mechanisms, enabling food manufacturers to extend product shelf life and reduce the use of artificial preservatives. The packets are dispensed from high speed APA equipment featuring nitrogen purge capabilities to maintain oxygen scavenger capacity.

Editor’s note: The APA-2000 Sorbent Dispenser and MAPLOX System will be on display at PACK EXPO International 2008, November 9 – 12, 2008 at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL, Booth #S-219. Multisorb executives will be on hand to discuss the company’s advanced active packaging technologies, programs and systems.
