From Packaging through Shipping, Multisorb Protects Meat Products
Buffalo, New York – July 2011

Oxygen and Moisture Management Solutions Fight Product Degradation

Buffalo, New York, 15 Jul 2011 – Multisorb Technologies is pleased to announce their attendance at TecnoCarne on 23-25 Aug 2011 in São Paulo, Brazil. Multisorb will be highlighting their proprietary MAPLOX™ program for case-ready, fresh meats; FreshMax® and FreshPax® oxygen absorbing sorbents for processed meats; and TranSorb® sorbent packs for transportation and storage.

Exposure to oxygen can cause fresh meat products to lose their freshness, taste, and visual appeal after just a few days. MAPLOX™, a low-oxygen packaging program, maintains the freshness, flavor, and color of case ready meats, including whole muscle meats, ground beef, and value-added fresh meats (i.e., kabobs and fajitas). The program includes FreshPax® CR oxygen absorbing packets that are customized for the specific meat package to assure optimum performance and cost effectiveness. In addition, a FreshPax® CR dispenser is used to dispense the FreshPax® CR in higher speed applications such as ground beef. Multisorb’s highly skilled packaging experts will provide technical assistance with determining exact specifications for the primary packaging materials, master bag, and vacuum/gas flush composition.

Oxygen is of equal concern to packagers of processed meats. FreshMax®, self-adhesive oxygen absorbers, and FreshPax®, oxygen absorbing packets, can extend the shelf life of oxygen-sensitive products by irreversibly absorbing and maintaining the oxygen levels inside sealed packaging to less than 0.01%. The result is retention of color for enhanced salability and far better flavor for far longer in distribution. Also, there is no longer a need for preservatives to fight rancidity and mold growth.

Multisorb Technologies provides a complete solution when FreshPax® packets are combined with Multisorb’s FreshPax® dispensers to create an unparalleled system. Multisorb’s systems approach offers easy integration of sorbent delivery into a variety of packaging lines.

The use of Multisorb Technologies oxygen absorbing technology improves sustainability by helping to reduce the amount of spoiled meat products which must be disposed of.

However, protecting your products should not stop at the packaging line. Transport and warehouse storage exposes products to fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels. Moisture condensation can occur as temperature fluctuates within the container or warehouse, causing condensation and damaging cargo. TranSorb® absorbs large amounts of this moisture, also known as cargo rain and container sweat, to protect cargo from corrosion and mold and to prevent damage to labels and packaging. In addition, TranSorb® can be formulated for use within refrigerated containers to prevent frost build-up when shipping frozen meats. TranSorb® is available in single packs, in strip format, in nets, or with adhesive backing.
